Drawing from the story of two young women called Roxie Hart, a ambitious cabaret dancer who killed her lover, and Velma Kelly, who also killed her husband and sister after finding out about their affair. Chicago delves into the world of crime, celebrity, and moral corruption. The show is crafted and directed by Maurine Dallas Watkins, Walter Bobbie. Chicago incorporates various musical genres including Jazz, Vaudeville, Blues, Rock and Ballad.
While twirling around the two criminals Roxie Hartand and Velma Kelly, Chicago also brings co-players including Billy Flynn, a charming and shrewd lawyer, and Matron "Mama" Morton, the powerful matriarch of the county jail, who serves a key role in the lives of the two incarcerated female characters.

The musical
Universally recognized for its distinctive jazz-influenced theme, mesmerizing choreography, and minimalist staging style which exhibits the essence of vaudeville, the musical firmly criticizes the infatuation with celebrity culture.
The revamped musical set in 1920, featuring music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, focuses on themes of corruption, crime, and the pursuit of fame. After being debuted on Broadway in 1975, the musical has received an enormous amount of positive and negative criticism, mainly for its provocative message, and cultural impact.
The story
Similar to Michael Corleone from The Godfather who phased from an idealistic role to a ruthless and cunning leader, Chicago is a exploration through the phases an individual goes through to fulfill one's thirst for fame and fortune.
The show illustrates how even crime can be a means for fame, highlighting the flaw in the justice system. The depicts how individuals transform themselves, and their identities to reach their ultimate selfish goal. The performance became groundbreaking initially for changing the crime game and introducing new roles of "women" to the industry. The 1996 Broadway production maintained the record as the second-longest-running American musical in Broadway history.
Chicago aims to showcase the shallowness of fame, and the contradiction between good deeds and status, demonstrating that not all famous people are successful in the sense of morality. The show sums up various individuals each performing for their personal interest, and how they cross into each other's lives, through different viewpoints.
