Based on the late 2001 motion picture directed, produced, and penned by Baz Luhrmann, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a live stage adaptation of the same romantic tale focused on Christian, an American composer, and Satine, the Moulin Rouge venue performer. The stage adaptation, which started at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in 2019, takes a modern approach by developing on the the 2001 film, especially with musical arrangements, with over 70 numbers prepared by 161 writers and composers reaching the actual premiere on the Broadway stage.

Since its premiere in Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in half a decade ago up to its present run in Tennessee Performing Arts Center, Moulin Rouge! The Musical has been one of the ultimate shows sought out by local and international audiences. The show, being a colorful musical in both set and music, appeals to a large reach of fans and has secured its spot in Broadway history.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical tells the journey of Christian, a motivated American composer who journeys to Paris to launch a successful career, who then encounters and unexpectedly is swept off his feet by the famous performer Satine of the Moulin Rouge nightclub, one of the most lively and fantastic entertainment venues in Montmartre at the turn of the 20th century. Their relationship however is not meant to be easy, as the two start to encounter a string of challenges, including the temper of one of Moulin Rouge’s loyal customers, the duke of Monroth who wishes Satine for himself and bars Christian from a public relationship with Satine.
The characters of Christian and Satine were originated by Tony Award winner Aaron Tveit (for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical), and Tony Award Nominee Karen Olivo (for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical) respectively. They were working hand in hand with a renowned Broadway veterans and cast members including Danny Burstein (Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical), and Tony Award Nominee Sahr Ngaujah (Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical) making up one of the best Broadway casts. Behind the scenes, Tony awardees such as Alex Timbers (Best Direction of a Musical), Sonya Tayeh (Best Choreography), and Justin Levine with Katie Kresek, Charlie Rosen, and Matt Stine (Best Orchestrations) create an second to none musical.
