With the guidance of Baz Luhrmann, the creator of the previous movie produced in 2001, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a live staging of the said picture. Focused on the story of Christian and Satine and their forbidden affair, the plot is performed on a colorfully made set fit for its late 1900s timeline, while expanding its song list to not only include the original music from Baz Luhrmann's film, but also mash-ups and medleys of new songs that were not accessible when the previous movie was shown.

Since its debut in Broadway, New York at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in 2019 up to its current run in Tennessee Performing Arts Center, Moulin Rouge! The Musical has been one of the finest shows traveled to by local and international audiences. The show, being an adaptation of a successful film, is of interest to a wide reach of viewers and has secured its position in Broadway success.

The musical shares the plot of Christian, an aspiring American composer who travels to Paris not knowing what is in store for him, who then encounters and unexpectedly falls in love with the star performer Satine of the Moulin Rouge nightclub, one of the highly sought out nightclubs in Montmartre in the late 19th century. Their connection however is forced into secrecy, as the couple suddenly face a mountain of trials, including the ire of one of Moulin Rouge’s longtime benefactors, the duke of Monroth who eyes Satine for himself and stops Christian from openly declaring his love for her.

The roles of Christian and Satine were first played by Award-winning actor Aaron Tveit (for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical), and Tony Award Nominee Karen Olivo (for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical) respectively. They were supported by a renowned Broadway veterans and cast members including Danny Burstein (Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical), and Tony Award Nominee Sahr Ngaujah (Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical) making up one of the best Broadway casts. Behind the curtain, Tony winners such as Alex Timbers (Best Direction of a Musical), Sonya Tayeh (Best Choreography), and Justin Levine with Katie Kresek, Charlie Rosen, and Matt Stine (Best Orchestrations) create an awe-inspiring show.
